This is Me

My photo
I'm a displaced South/Central Texan living in Louisville Kentucky
I am a princess because I am a child of the Risen King! My background is Baptist, but believe I have a relationship not a religion. I married my childhood sweetheart and together we have raised two wonderful children and got them married off. I love everything about being a wife and mother. Now guess what? I am going to be a GRANDMA!! We are so excited for this next step in our lives.

Romantic Dreams On My Porch

Today’s Porch Club Topic “What do you Find Romantic about Porches”

Me? Hands down sleeping on the porch!!

Years ago homes in the south were built with a porch on the back and usually all but one side was screened. The side that was not screened had siding and faced the morning.

My sweetheart and I have had many vacations where we have pulled beds out to the porch! I love the style of home like the one that has been in his family for years at the bay with window all along the back of the house. We would open them all. This room becomes a screened in porch room.

When the kids were little our favorite vacation was renting a cabin in Mountain Home Texas.  It was out in the middle of nowhere, and simple house with a large screened porch! On this porch were two double beds and it was used as a good old sleeping porch!

At night you can hear leaves as the breeze climbs through the trees, and occasional hoo of an old owl. Lighting Bugs flicker as they randomly fly in the night, and the cool breeze smells so sweet as it puts you to sleep with the stars as your nightlights. I love to put fresh flowers or lavender in the rooms to catch the breeze.  Ah, life is good.

Morning comes and the sun peeks through the trees and smiles a good morning. Birds begin sing a new song and all you need is the smell of coffee and bacon!

Ah yes start the day with Bible study and cup of coffee then
Bacon and Eggs with homemade Biscuits and Gravy

I don't have a sleeping porch, but often on hot summer nights I wish I did. I'd sleep out there quit a bit and soak up all that wonderful goodness of God's glorious creation! Before moving to Louisville I had a hammock on my back porch I was known to have had a sleep out with the cat a few times. For now, I'll just have to settle for sleeping with open windows on our beautiful summer nights.

I can't wait to have a house with a screened in porch! We are moving in the next year I hope we can find a house with one! I would love to pile the grandkids out there and let them build some great memories on beds like these!

Sweet Dreams Everyone............

I would love to screen in my porch too, even just a section, but it is on the front of the house though it is set back from the street. I need a Mr. Fix it handy man in my life, so I doubt it will happen this year as I would have to spend $$ on it and in this economy I am hesitant. Hugs and Blessing and have a great week! Marilou

Oh yes ! I like the sound of sleeping on a screened in porch.
Before air conditioning they did that a lot in the south ,They would dampen the sheets and the evaporation would make them feel cool. I don't think I would go that far , but it sounds romantic to sleep out. Kinda like camping without the bugs . lol

Wanda - a sleeping porch would be wonderful. You've made me remember the cottage at the lake my dad's family had when I was growing up. There was a screened in front porch and we often slept out there on hot nights. The breeze came in and it was wonderful.

Sharon, Sometimes the dew in the air dampens the sheets enough! lol

Thank you ladies for stopping by. Even if you only take a lawn chair or towel out this summer, enjoy an outdoor nap they are just so lovely & relaxing!

Hi Wanda,

You and I sourced the same sleeping porch photo..it is such a dreamy sleeping porch.

And yes you are right about the screened porches that were common place with southern homes. I hope to take a portion of my porches and do the same..how fun it will be to decorate that special area. I have so many ideas I don't think I'll ever get them all done.

Thanks so much for sharing all the great sleeping porch images...you and I both had them on our minds. ♥

I'm visiting for Porch Club Monday..hope you'll drop by!

Hugs,
Stephanie ♥
